Application technology of HDPE geomembrane


HDPE geomembranes have been widely used in the construction of landfill impermeable layers in recent years. Firstly, the geomembrane must be tested in advance for various indicators, including tensile strength, density, elongation, tear strength, etc., and its appearance must be tested. Secondly, the geomembranes that meet the specifications after the first step of testing will be sampled according to their actual size and quantity, and the samples will be sent to the National Construction Materials Testing Center for testing. Finally, only the geomembranes that meet the inspection requirements can enter the material preparation area of the construction site, and then proceed to the landfill base treatment, membrane joint welding, test welding, defect repair, destructive testing, and backfill protection.

Before the geomembrane laying process, the surface must be smooth and free of debris, so the surface must be thoroughly cleared of residual roots, debris, rocks, etc.; and the quality of filler must be strictly ensured to ensure that all materials in it have good gradation, avoiding the presence of clay blocks, garbage, organic matter, and other harmful substances to avoid damaging the HDPE geomembrane. In addition, the management of welding equipment and vehicles should be done well to avoid indentation or other damage to the surface due to vehicle movement and compacting the surface in strict accordance with the construction design requirements to ensure that its compactness meets the construction regulations. 


Welding of geomembrane joints is a critical part of stopping leakage. Normally, the joint should be parallel to the slope, along the slope, and as far as possible, with the horizontal joint at the bottom of the unit, not less than 1.5 m from the foot of the slope. The other type is hot press angle welding, which requires the blocks to overlap at least 7.5 cm before welding, and then inserting a molten resin welding rod at the bent edge of the two layers of HDPE geomembrane and using hot air to melt the material to make a uniform bond on the surface of the thin layer.
